June 9th 2004: Back, by popular demand. After many pleas to put the movie back up, here it is.

NOTE: Please allow for the movie to download completely, as WMP doesn't support stream download on HTTP content *ugh*

Direct download of clip @ Apple_Switch_Parody_DivX.avi

The above embedded code has been tested to work with 'Windows Media Player' (WMP). It should also work with any other embedded capable player that will work with DirectShow filters. The video codec DivX is in use by many people, but if you are one of the unlucky ones to see a black screen you will need to download and install it manually first. Microsoft doesn't like companies making a better version of a product they use, so they refuse to include DivX in the list of codecs to automatically install when it is needed. A shame, but nothing I can do about it. Get codec here

The original is 47.9MB, which was re-encoded into a more modern version of 3.18MB without too much quality loss. Can't complain too much considering it's a reduction of more then 15x while still ok to watch. I first used the VP32 codec, which actually gives a better visual result and even smaller file, but the embedded Apple Quicktime refused to do the MP3 audio codec along with it. So now I was forced to use the DivX codec. Funny that an originally for the Mac designed application refused to work so I was forced to go with a Windows solution, which also works on a Mac FYI.

  • Video Codec = DivX 5.0.2 @ 100Kbps DualPass (2.59MB).
  • Audio Codec = MP3 @ 20Kbps CBR (0.59MB).
Unlike the original, this version was made on a Windows machine ;)
